Summary of updates to course administration in preparation for SGWU strike

Making your learning experience awesome in PSYCH 10 / STATS 60 relies on the hard work of our incredible TAs. However, bargaining between the Stanford Graduate Workers’ Union (SGWU) and Stanford University administration had not achieved a mutually agreeable resolution for the past several weeks/months.

Thus a university-wide graduate workers’ strike was scheduled to begin Wednesday, November 13, 2024. As of the evening of Tuesday, November 12, 2024, a tentative agreement has been reached.

This evolving situation will continue to impact our course in many substantial ways. Nevertheless, the full teaching team has arrived at a contingency plan that still provides you with all of the learning opportunities that we have originally envisioned for you. Here’s what the rest of the quarter is going to look like.

Component Impact
Lecture Lectures will continue as normal.
CourseKata All assigned CourseKata modules will still be due on their original due dates.
Quizzes All remaining quizzes (& practice quizzes) will still take place.
Labs Lab 4 will still be due Nov 22; Lab 5 is still canceled.
Project PM4 is due; PM5 (report) & PM6 (poster) still due. PM5 will be available starting from Nov 11 and due on Dec 10. PProject presentations will now be submitted as 5-minute video recordings (due 12/11 at 3:30PM). The in-person final project showcase will still be canceled.
Section Week 8 sections are still on. Week 9 (Nov 18-22) or Week 10 (Dec 2-6) sections are tentatively back on. It is still expected that attending 5 sections will be needed to receive full attendance credit for section.
Office Hours Prof. Fan will continue holding 2 hour-long OHs in Week 9 & Week 10. TA office hours will tentatively continue.
Slack Prof. Fan’s OH and lectures are still a great way to get individualized help with course material. TAs will tentatively be continuing to monitor Slack.
